One of the best things about summer is getting to spend more time outside. Day to day parenting is just SO much easier when I can fling open the patio doors and let Luisa potter around in the garden. Of course I have to keep a close eye, lest she uproots my basil or climbs next door in pursuit of the cat, but at 2 years old she can amuse herself for a little while at least. This gives me the opportunity to sit in the sun with a coffee, hang up some washing or get a bit of work done.

No afternoon in the garden is complete without a backing track, at least in my opinion. Matt has all kinds of fancy Alexa robot creatures inside the house but finally, I have a special radio just for me.

We were recently sent the Emma Bridgewater VQ Retro Mk II in the Marmalade print. Whilst it does have a really kitsch old time look, don’t be fooled, this radio is no mere wireless! You can pick up all your favourite FM & DAB stations, stream from Spotify or similar and play directly from your smartphone using the dock on the front or via Bluetooth.

The setup process is really straight forward, you can start listening within a few minutes of the courier leaving. The time and date synced automatically when we turned it on so there was no annoying fiddling to get that all right.

The Retro Mk II comes in twelve different colours, 6 of which are Emma Bridgewater patterns so I’m sure there’s something to your taste. You can use the radio whilst it’s plugged into the mains or grab a battery pack which offers an impressive 25 hours of play time.

Another feature I really like is that it charges your iPhone whilst it’s docked, when not in use you just push the little shelf in so it’s not sticking out getting in your way. If you’re not an apple user you can still connect your phone using the cable provided.

I really love the Retro Mk II, it’s fancy enough to give a great range of high-quality listening options but simple enough for anyone to use. I think the prints are gorgeous and the quality of the build is really impressive. Head over to the VQ website to buy one now – don’t forget to use the code BABY20 for 20% off until the end of August.

If you’re impressed too and fancy winning a Retro MK II worth £129.99  then it’s your lucky day as I’m giving a one away! The winner can choose whichever print the like best, enter using the form below.
