If you read about my experience at BritMums Live you’ll know I attended a creative session with illustrator Jennie Maizels. It was an amazing opportunity to get creative and learn some new skills whilst listening to Jennie’s inspiring stories. Aside from meeting some of my lovely blowing friends this was, by far, the highlight of my BML experience. I enjoyed it so much I’m signing up for her online sketchbook club.
Shortly after BML I was contacted Walker Books, who represent Jennie, and offered the chance to check out some of her recent titles. Walker sent over two books that are just perfect for this time of year due to their educational theme.
‘The Great Grammar Book’ and ‘The Terrific Times Tables Book’ are highly illustrated, interactive books designed to breathe new life into dry topics. Both books are hardback, aimed at kids ages 7 or older and cost £14.99. You can pick them up ‘from all good book stores’ or Amazon.
The books are written by Kate Petty and illustrated by Jennie. Although if you ask me ‘illustrated’ isn’t even the right word, these books are total works of art and feats of true craftsmanship. Every page is full of interactive elements that go far beyond your traditional ‘lift the flap’ book.
I really think these books would be a great way to slip back in to ‘school mode’ as they are really attractive and make what can be a taxing subject a bit more lively. I also really love the almost traditional style and colours used. They definitely remind me of books I would have read as a child.
So as much as I l.o.v.e these books it really wouldn’t be fair of me to hold on to them for 6 or more years so that Luisa can enjoy them. For that reason I’ve decided to give them away to one lucky reader. You can enter using the form below — good luck!
