So, How Often Should I Change That?

We’re all creatures of habit – we all like things a certain way and many of us don’t do well when it comes to change! But add a busy parent into the mix and things can get a little more complicated! Let me ask you something…when was the last time you changed your toothbrush? And how old is that bra that you’re wearing?

If you’re answer is…questionable – or you simple don’t even know, then read on. Here you’ll find the lowdown on how often you should change your household items – some may surprise you, others may shock you!

Your shower head: every 6-8 months

Yep, you read correctly! Changing a shower head is something many of us have never done, mainly because it’s not something we ever consider to do. It’s only used for a few minutes a day, right? How bad can it be?

Well, did you know that there are thousands of different types of bacteria that simply thrive in the moist, damp environment that is your shower? You’re literally showering in it! But don’t panic – you don’t have to order a new shower for the bathroom.

Noticed a change in water pressure lately? This will probably be due to a build up of limescale in the shower head – which means that you’re not getting the morning power shower that you deserve! Changing your shower head will be good for you not just psychically – but mentally as well.

Your toothbrush: every 3-4 months

We’re all told by our dentists and by our parents that brushing and looking after your oral health is really important! But did you know that by neglecting to change your toothbrush, you’re actually doing away with all your hard work?

If you become ill you should always remember to change your toothbrush straight away!

By neglecting to change your toothbrush you’re allowing bacteria to grow and thrive. So, go and replace it right now! This goes for electric toothbrush heads as well as manual ones.

Your pillows: every 2-3 years

Experts recommended that as soon as your pillow becomes lumpy or discoloured, or no longer supports your head and neck then it’s time to let it go!

Not only that, but pillows and cushions are a breeding ground for bacteria. Think about it; those nights when you didn’t take off your makeup, those hot nights in the summer when you feel all hot and sticky. Your pillow absorbs all of that!

Your bra: every 6 months

We all have a favourite bra, don’t we ladies? That same one we’ve probably had for years and we go to for a bit of comfort? Well, did you know that that comfy bra isn’t probably doing your bust or your back any favours!

Experts recommend that if your body shape has changed then invest in new lingerie, same goes if you have the bra on the tightest fitting but it no longer stays in place. And if the underwire is poking through – then definitely get rid of it! Go on, treat yourself!

Just learning that it takes over 500 years for a toothbrush to decompose. Seriously looking at how I can respond to Blue Planet reality that I contribute too much that is harmful to our planet.
