*We were sent two bottles of Buster Bathroom Plughole Unblocker by Mumsnet in exchange for an honest appraisal.
If you know me at all you’ll know I’m far from a ‘domestic goddess’, my approach to most housework is primarily avoidance. That said if I’m going to spend an hour cleaning my house I want it to look amazing at the end! I’m not someone who wants to carry around a tool belt of products to spruce up the living room, I like cleaning products which do the job first time and I don’t mind spending a bit extra on a gadget that truly makes housework less painful – like a snazzy hoover.
Mumsnet recently asked us to put Buster Bathroom Plughole Unblocker (RRP £3.40) through it’s paces and see what we thought of the product. Given that my hair still seems to shed like billyoh and we have a cocker spaniel who needs near weekly baths I was intrigued to see if it could improve the drainage in our bath.
We’re renting our house so as much as i’d like a separate shower and bath it’s just not an option right now. This means it sees a lot of traffic with a messy toddler, bearded boyfriend and the aforementioned mutt gracing it frequently. I’m also quite partial to a little treat from Lush which usually means i’m backing up the drainage even further with an assortment of petals and glitter.
Keen to find out if Buster Bathroom Plughole Unblocker could help our slight drainage problem I popped a bottle down the plug hole and left it overnight and flushed with eater in the morning – as directed. The bottle is fitted with a child safe cap and should always be kept out of reach of children and animals. I was really impressed to see that it made a clear and immediate difference to the speed at which the water drained. I’m sure my landlord would be equally chuffed to know we’d taken this step too!
Before I read more about the product, I’ll be honest, I thought slow draining water was just a fairly common inconvenience. I didn’t realise it can actually be a bit grim… Because plugholes tend to be warm, dark and damp they’re ideal breeding ground for germs. When hair, soap sludge and skin particles get trapped and build up in the pipes bacteria can breed. According to a scientific study by the University of East Anglia commissioned by BusterIf left if untreated, this bacteria can cause really harmful pathogens such as E.coli and Salmonella to form. They can then become airborne and pass up through the plughole in the home, landing on people and nearby objects. Told you it was grim!
By using Buster Bathroom Plughole Unblocker you’re cleaning the whole pipe, killing off germs and getting rid of smells, stains and limescale, leaving your plugholes fresh and fragrant. I don’t know about you but the last thing I want in my shower is a breeding ground for germs so ill certainly be using Buster as a regular treatments to prevent this build up.
In conclusion i’d really reccomend that you reach for Buster Bathroom Plughole Unblocker is you have slow draining plugs or heavy traffic in the bathroom. I think it’s a really effective way to keep on top of a potential problem and guard against the nasty germs mentioned above. You can purchase Buster from most leading supermarkets, DIY stores and online.
